The recovery curves are ongoing outcome measures designed as a means of providing quantitative measures to demonstrate patient recovery from stroke or head injury as against traditional subjective opinion. Note: This assessment is not about which treatment technique or rehabilitation programme is being used.
The tests are ongoing and consist of sensory, proprioceptive and motor. The motor tests examine the patient against normal movement patterns, which are graded in increasing complexity. From this information recovery curves are drawn, these graphs can obviously show if the patient has improved, plateaued, or regressed and can also be done again months or years later and a comparison made.
This methodology was developed over fifteen years by Mr Gordon W Harrison MCSP, Registration No 21426, working as a Senior Physiotherapist in charge of Physiotherapy Services on a stroke and head injury unit within the National Health Service.
This programme is now being made available as a complete package, which can be utilised in hard copy format or automated computer application for data collection and graphic results showing recovery curves. The whole assessment can also be printed out and done manually and includes e-mail support for your queries.
